William Jackson Hurst, affectionately known as Bill, was born on April 27, 1932 in Lamar, Colorado to William T. and Mary Elizabeth (Harrell) Hurst. He passed away on November 21, 2023 at Berthoud Care and Rehabilitation Center in Berthoud, Colorado at the age of 91.
Bill was the oldest son of seven children. His father passed away unexpectedly when Bill was not yet a teenager. His life changed from a boy to the man his mother leaned upon. Bill’s mother had family in Missouri who felt that she should move back there but with Bill’s support, she had the courage to move to Boulder, Colorado so her children would have access to a college education. Her great desire was for each of her children to have the same benefit of attending college that she had, graduating in the 1920’s from Missouri State University, and they all did. A very giving person, Bill lent a helping hand to many and being a music lover, went to the Messiah in Boulder every year, and each time taking someone with him. His trips to Rocky Ford to bring back cider to all the family members are still remembered. With much love, we lay him to rest, knowing that the good he did while here, will live on.
Bill is survived by his sisters, Helen Hurst Dunkel of Longmont, Colorado and Lucinda “Cindy” Hurst Vail of Santa Rosa, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Florence E. Hurst Rowe, Joan Hurst Gylling, Harrell Holbert Hurst, and John Thomas Hurst.
