Maria Magdalena Lucero passed away on November 16, 2024 at her home in Las Animas at the age of 93.  She was born May 23, 1931 in Chacon, New Mexico to Margarito and Lioneres (Romero) Sanchez. 

Maria grew up in New Mexico, moving to Las Animas, Colorado in 1963.  In 1972, she opened Lucero Residential Care Home, a residential care facility for veterans.  Over the span of 38 years, she not only provided care for the residents, but also formed a lifelong bond with each veteran and cherished the time she had with them.  Maria was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren, providing each one unconditional love.

Maria is survived by her sons, Robert (Marilyn) Lucero, Raymond Lucero, Josephine (Manuel) Lucero all of Las Animas, Colorado, and Lawrence Lucero of Pueblo West, Colorado; sister, Sadie Archuleta of La Junta, Colorado; numerous grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Lucero; son, Johnny Lucero; grandsons, Andy Cortinez and Jason Arciniega.
