A memorial service for Lewis “Scotty” Semmel will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023 MST at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Lamar, CO with Pastor Mark Viar officiating. A memorial service will be held at Price & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. CST with Pastor Don Williams officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Lewis Eugene Semmel passed away on May 22, 2023 at his home in Lamar, Colorado at the age of 85. He was born on January 22, 1938 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Adolf and Mary (May) Semmel.
Lewis had owned and operated Scotty’s Body Shop, was a volunteer firefighter, drove the activity bus and a regular route for Scott Community School in Scott City, Kansas later moving to Goddard, Kansas where he drove a regular school bus route. Lewis had been a mechanical engineer for BOEING, worked in law enforcement, was a custom harvester, operated a bait shop, owned a lawncare service, and was a camp host at Cheney Lake. He was well known in the Lamar, Colorado community for riding around town on his scooter. Lewis found a friend in every person he met often captivating their attention with his stories about his life.
He is survived by five daughters, one adopted daughter, one foster son, three siblings, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Monty and Marsha Turley and their family who provided care for Lewis for the last several years.
Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather; father and stepmother; two wives; two siblings; and two grandsons.
