Frederick Jolly Obituary

Frederick James Jolly Jr. was born on April 3, 1948, in Altadena, California. He passed away on January 30, 2022, at Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 73.

Throughout his life, Fred worked as a landscaper, auto mechanic, and as a driver for Schaefer Ambulance Service. During the Vietnam War he served in the Infantry Division of the United States Army. On April 7, 1968, he earned the Bronze Star Medal with the “V” Device for crawling across enemy lines to rescue two wounded soldiers. Then on May 12, 1968, he earned the Silver Star Medal for remaining at his post while wounded, disregarding his own safety to defeat three enemy soldiers in armed combat, and for contributing greatly to the success of the mission. After the war, he returned to California before eventually moving to Colorado in the 1970’s where he spent the remainder of his life.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick James Jolly Sr.; mother, Janey Lou Jolly; and nephew, Nolan Byron Cooper.

He is survived by his brother, Stephen Paul Jolly; sister, Ramona Elizabeth Cooper; and son, David Michael Jolly. He is also survived by his niece, Alicen Amber Montcalm; great nephews, Dante and Leon; and great niece, Lucina.
